Sheena

Sigh! I have been too busy for a couple of days to keep up with my blog - though it is normal for me. Every start of the month is when I’m busy at work the most. And i'm not writing for Day 5 either.. Perhaps, I just want to brag about my new toy ;-)

It's a camera.

I sold my first digital video cam about a month ago. I've been eyeing to purchase a replacement. And I’ve planned for it to be something that’s kind of same with new cameras nowadays (yeah!) But if ya’ really know me, you’d know that I wouldn’t really spend too much for something like that.

So as a result of my thorough search… I’ve found a camera that has a name (at least in line with some famous brands), professional-looking, clever, and very budget-friendly. =D

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you… “Sheena”. My Fujifilm FinePix S2500 (click here for other specific details)

Why “Sheena”? I don’t know too. I just thought of that name as I write this blog. And I just want to share that before finally finding and choosing “Sheena”, I’ve seen A LOT of really nice cameras, great specs… also with great prices =D I got some advices from kuya Ron too of course.

I’m so ready for our Vigan weekend!

Day 4 – Your favorite photograph of your best friend.

These are my five bestest friends – Ponji, Carmi, Winston, Mama and Papa Jesus – the ones that I love so dearly. I can’t really choose only one so I’m posting them all.

Ponji – she was the first person I met on the first day of class in college. I can remember, we (together with Steph, Carmeli and Jade) were the only ones who were wearing our uniforms on the first day. She’s Cancerian. Normally, I don’t go well with that sign, but strangely we connect in so many ways. Physically, we are totally different – in height, size, color, hair, etc. – but that doesn’t matter. When we’re together, we talk a lot (she keeps on asking almost the same questions again and again). We share our deepest and darkest secrets =) and up to this point (that we have our own families), we share our experiences, problems, and joys whenever available.

3 words that best describes Ponji: clever, impulsive, and fearless

Carmi – super-short-haired, snub and maarte – was the first few descriptions that I had for her when I first saw her in second year college. The four of us (ponji, tin, I and her) got stuck with each other since then as we became group mates in almost every projects or activities. Like me, she’s a Geminian too. She loves to be in-love (but I don’t think she sees it). She likes to make things fabulous despite of her boyishness. She’s maarte in a good way, but we’re koboys. She’s very smart and funny (especially when she mimics Puss-in-Boots’ big lonely eyes. We used to be email-chat mates, there’s not a day that we did not communicate – until a day comes when all other outside emails are scanned and locked. But as they say, “walang matigas na tinapay, sa may nilagang tyaga!” LOL… Up to this day, we keep ourselves updated by reading our blogs – which is one thing that we both love to do.

3 words that best describes Carmi: smart, happy, and genuine

Winston – my husband. He is indeed my best friend because he is the one, aside from God and my mom, who knows about me from head to toe, inside and out. He is the one who I confide to when everyone else doesn’t seem to understand. He loves motorcycles – veeery much! =) A complete motorcycle junkie! With just one look, he can tell the model of the mc that just passed by. He can actually become a mechanic already. He loves to watch television and sleep – I actually wonder how he can possibly sleep for 12 straight hours. He is sometimes insensitive and is not good in keeping surprises. He loves to eat – one thing we have in common. I love him with all my heart.

3 words that best describes Winston: gentleman, tough and caring

Mama – my one and only mom. I was about to explain why I consider her as one of my bffs aside from being a mother, but I can’t think of anything else that would not fall into a mother’s-love category. She’s the first person I trust with anything. She’s the first person who taught me how to pray. I have always been pampered with her love. She can sense if I feel troubled. Well, I don’t really need to enumerate further. Because pretty sure that’s how every mothers work. Just one thought that she told me a few years back that I kept in mind (something about womanhood), that I should hold on to my career even if I marry, so that whatever happens I can keep my independence.

3 words that best describes Mama: loving, practical, and friendly

Papa Jesus – yes, our Heavenly Father. My creator, savior, guide, redeemer. He blesses us every day, keeps us safe and healthy, give us the knowledge and strength. He is everything that we need. Personally, I consider Him my best friend because He comforts me when I feel down, troubled and stuck on “dead ends”, He makes me understand things when I’m full of questions, He answers my prayers in His own time (which sometime I receive very quickly), gives me happiness in every way, and He lets me feel so loved and special.

3 words that best describes Papa Jesus: supreme, merciful, and loving

Day 3 – Your idea of the perfect first date

My idea of a perfect first date would be pretty simple but could require a whole day. I like travel, adventure, and outdoor activities so you could expect that a day full of activities or nature trip will be very much appreciated than a luxurious dinner.

Anywhere with you

You could ask me to go with you somewhere away from the busy streets of Manila. I like a place where I can see nature, smell the fresh air, and bond with you without too much noise. Let’s have a simple lunch, miryenda or dinner together. I’m not hard to please so eating in a karinderya would not be an issue.

Classic example: Naneeh (hubby) and I usually go to Antipolo on an early Sunday morning to hear the mass. Then we look for a not-so-common place to eat (no fast foods please). But we don’t need to look far, because just in-front of Antipolo church is a bunch of carinderias, serving hot sotanghon soup, delicious kakanins, etc. You also get to bring pasalubong for your family.

Drive Me Crazy

I love long drives. Some people get easily bored with long travel hours, not me. It could be an outing or just driving from one destination to another. Ideally, it is out of town. Especially when I’m in the mood for riding/driving I don’t care where we go, driving with you will give us one great bonding time.

Classic example: On an early Sunday morning, Naneeh and I would go to Marilaque, Tanay, Rizal with our bike Sam. It’s about one to one and a half hour drive from Makati. Mostly, it’s a nature trip. You could gaze through the wonderful creations of God – mountains, hills, trees and breathe the freshest air of the morning. There’s one destination/stopover at the top, the Pranjetto Hills resort and conference center. There’s a “bulaluhan” where we usually have breakfast.

Amuse Me

Amusement parks…sure! Since childhood, I love rides! I love the adrenaline rush, excitement and anticipation that comes with it. No need for further explanation. You can expect me keep the smile on my face until we go home, but be sure to keep your energy full charged because I don’t easily get tired in this kind of fun.

Classic example: Few years back, we went to EK with my family. Although my husband and I have been together for about one or two years then, that was our first time to go there together. As usual, I was as excited as a child! I had no idea that he doesn’t like rides back then. We first rode in the Flying Fiesta. I was really enjoying when I noticed that he was a bit uncomfortable. I was asking him if he was OK, he said yes. Next stop was on the Anchors Away. We were at my favorite spot – at the end of the boat - while my cousins were on the other end. The boat started swaying, and during the peak, he was already holding his stomach and was really leaning towards me just like a frightened kid. At first I was teasing him, but then he told me that he doesn’t really like rides. That really moved me – to realize that he went thru that experience even if he really doesn’t want to. But he has improved a lot! Just last year we went to Star City, we rode every rides together. I can still sense the little fears, but he is learning to enjoy it with me.

Try Me

I love competition. You can ask me to compete with you – we can drive, climb, try a video game, solve puzzles, even wrestle - I am always ready. Aside from bonding moments, this is your chance to show me your strength and ability, which could really leave a lasting impression.

Classic example: Once in a while (when we got our own bikes) my husband and I race – of course in a safe area, with safety riding gears. He is very strict when it comes to safety. There was even a time when we need to pick up my cousin’s mc from their place. I drove Sam and he drove the other mc. It was my first time to drive Sam in a wide highway – Roxas Blvd. He was very supportive and careful, while at first I was a bit nervous. Just because it feels so different to actually drive an mc in a highway than driving a car. Eventually, we were kind of competing – the race was not about the who drives the fastest but slalom, how you reach the stop line considering the cars lined-up (as obstacles). Sometimes, we also wrestle. It will start when we try to tickle each other and we end up wrestling. We also like playing Tekken together.

My idea of a perfect date need not to be fabulous, I just want you to make me feel that you have time for me =D.

Day 2 – A photo of something you ate today

This is what i had for my break today. One big asado siopao and Piknik - Honey Mustard from 7-Eleven. I felt a bit hungry during the first break and so i decided to buy something from the convenience store. I was planning to get something from KFC but i saw my friend near 7-eleven and unconsciously my feet brought me there =D.

While on my way inside the store, i was thinking of getting a sandwich, but again i thought their sandwiches are stored in a freezer and so it's cold and i would have to wait for another minute for them to re-heat it. I went to the junk foods section first and got myself a small can of my favorite Piknik, honey mustard flavor. Then i decided to get a big asado siopao instead of a hotdog sandwich. Why? I also don't know. I just felt it.

So i paid my items, got back to the office and ate my siopao. By the way, my siopao has a big chunk of meat inside, aside from the evenly-spread asado meat and sauce. So big that i thought i was eating bola-bola. LOL!

Anyway, i enjoyed my snack and expectedly felt sleepy after a few minutes. haha..

This is me and my signature pose =D. This picture was taken on Tuesday, during lunch with my office mates at yellow cab.

An article to share: Parents who hate parenting: The latest trend?

I've read a good article from Yahoo! today about parenting trends. Aside from my mom's advices and friends' stories, i read anything about parenting. I'd like to be able to set my expectations even before I conceive. At the end of the said article, there are ten helpful tips to for moms give themselves permission to take care of themselves and, in doing so, find more joy in parenting:

1. Give yourself a break—you don't need to be so hard on yourself.
2. Just say no! What are your real priorities?
3. Take time to write it down. Journaling will bring clarity to your life.
4. Slow down and savor living in the moment.
5. Plug into your kids so you can really connect with them.
6. Don't forget about your husband—intimacy is life-affirming!
7. Reach out beyond your family. It will enrich everyone.
8. Make your physical and mental health a priority.
9. Is more always better? Simplify everything.
10. Be a little selfish—you deserve it, and it will make you a better mother.
